Emerging Artist: Open to aspiring artists of any age in any discipline whose work is of a professional standard. Individuals only. Includes a $500 cash prize.
The recipient must demonstrate exceptional creativity, originality, and potential in their chosen medium, showcasing a fresh perspective that sets them apart in their field. Their work should reflect technical skill, innovation, and a strong artistic voice, which can resonate deeply with audiences and provoke thought or emotion. Evidence of recent accomplishments, such as exhibitions, performances, publications, or other public recognition, and a commitment to continued artistic growth and exploration is essential. The artist's contributions should align with the award’s mission, whether celebrating cultural impact, experimentation, or representation of underrepresented voices. A compelling narrative of their journey, challenges overcome, and vision for the future further strengthens their candidacy.
Outstanding Group: This award recognizes incorporated organizations, institutions, and/or collectives for outstanding achievement in Literary, Visual, Media, Multi-Media, and Performing Arts.
It may be for an ongoing activity or a new venture that has dramatically enhanced the community’s artistic vibrancy. The team must demonstrate exceptional collaboration, innovation, and a unified effort toward achieving a significant goal. Their accomplishments should highlight the group's collective impact, showcasing how their synergy has led to tangible outcomes that might not have been possible individually. Evidence of the group’s excellence could include successful projects, measurable results, or contributions that have positively influenced their community, industry, or field. The group’s commitment to inclusivity, shared leadership, and effective communication should also be evident, fostering a culture of mutual respect and shared purpose. Alignment with the award’s mission, whether recognizing achievements in creativity, social impact, or industry excellence, and testimonials or endorsements that reflect their influence, further solidify their candidacy.
Outstanding Individual: Recognizes individual achievement in any area of creative expression, including Literary Arts, Visual Arts, Media Arts, Multi-Arts, Dance, Theatre, and Music.
The recipient must demonstrate exceptional achievement, leadership, and impact in their field. Their work should reflect high skill, innovation, and dedication, with measurable results that have positively influenced their community, industry, or discipline. The individual must exhibit vision, integrity, perseverance, and a clear commitment to making a lasting difference. Contributions beyond personal success—mentoring others, advocating for change, or fostering collaboration—are crucial. Recognition from peers, industry experts, or those impacted by their work further strengthens the case. An individual’s alignment with the award’s mission and values and a track record of sustained excellence and influence solidify their candidacy for this prestigious recognition.
Outstanding Event: Recognizes public events (i.e., festivals, concerts, and other live performances) and one-time events by established groups, such as theatrical productions and art exhibits, for their outstanding accomplishment in event presentation.
The event must demonstrate exceptional planning, execution, and impact. It should be marked by creativity, innovation, and a clear vision, offering a unique experience that resonates deeply with its attendees. The event must achieve measurable success, such as high attendance, positive feedback, or tangible outcomes that align with its objectives. Factors like seamless logistics, inclusive accessibility, and engaging programming are crucial to its success. Additionally, the event should contribute to its community or industry through cultural significance, social impact, or economic benefits. Evidence of intense collaboration, stakeholder involvement, and effective promotion further enhance the event's merit, alongside alignment with the award's mission to recognize excellence in event planning and execution.

Most Promising New Event: The award is open to any new event that has been developing for less than two years.
Even in its early stages, the event must demonstrate strong potential for growth, innovation, and impact. It should offer a fresh concept or approach that stands out in its industry or community, providing a unique experience that captivates attendees and sets a high standard for future editions. The event must exhibit excellent planning, creativity, and execution, emphasizing quality, organization, and a well-defined purpose. Evidence of positive feedback, strong attendance, and effective marketing strategies will highlight its potential for success. The event should also show promises for long-term sustainability and growth, with plans for future development or expansion, and align with the award's mission to recognize events that are making a significant and promising start.
City of Owen Sound events are excluded from eligibility for this award.
Cultural Catalyst: This award is open to any individual or corporate entity deemed to have made a significant and lasting contribution to the arts or heritage. Nominees may include volunteers, donors, sponsors, educators, innovative producers, etc. Except for recovering expenses, any volunteer nominated for this award receives no payment or honorarium for their involvement.
The recipient must demonstrate a significant ability to influence and transform cultural landscapes through innovation, creativity, and leadership. Their work should challenge societal norms, promote inclusivity, and spark meaningful dialogue, contributing to shifts in public perception or social values. The recipient must actively engage with and empower diverse communities, fostering collaboration and giving voice to underrepresented groups. Evidence of long-term impacts, such as the creation of enduring cultural initiatives, initiatives that promote social justice, or shifts in public awareness, is essential. The work should align with the award's mission to recognize those who drive positive cultural change and catalyze progress in society.
Cultural Heritage:
Recognizes contributions to our tangible and intangible cultural heritage, including, but not limited to, restoration or adaptive re-use of historic structures; heritage displays, exhibits, installations, education, and public services; the keeping and passing on of traditional songs, stories, and dance; traditional craftsmanship; literary works featuring historical themes or promoting heritage; heritage festivals and events; etc.
The recipient must demonstrate a commitment to preserving, celebrating, and promoting cultural traditions, practices, or artifacts with historical, artistic, or social significance. The work should involve careful research, documentation, or restoration of cultural heritage, ensuring its integrity and authenticity for future generations. Efforts should include community involvement, educating the public about the value of cultural preservation, and fostering a deeper understanding of cultural diversity. Evidence of tangible results, such as successful heritage conservation projects, exhibitions, or educational programs, is essential. The recipient must also align with the award's mission to protect and share cultural heritage, ensuring that underrepresented or endangered cultures receive recognition and support.
